Damaged Mattress
On January 6th, 2011, Allied Van Lines moved my home furniture and other items from Florida to California. The moving truck encountered some rainstorms along the way and in the process, a leak in the storage area of the truck caused one of my King size mattresses to get soaked up. The driver informed me upon arrival in California and Allied sent an adjuster to look at the mattress after I filled out a claim form on their website - my claim reference number- 503697. The adjuster concluded that the mattress was damaged beyond repair and advised us to get rid of it. We took his advice and disposed of the mattress. However, when we contacted Allied about 2 weeks later, the customer service representative assigned to the claim, a lady by the name of "Becky", who I contacted at 1-800-470-2851, stated that the mattress was in fact "repairable" and that the cost of repairs was around $400. She concluded that because my deductible was $500, there was nothing they could do. In other words, they were off the hook for repairs or reimbursement. I paid $1,750 for my mattress about 18 months ago. This is a scam that Allied trains its' claim adjusters to practice. They do not reimburse at any cost, irregardless of the extent of the damage and their fiduciary commitment to honor the insured party's claim.
